Cookbooks Have Arrived! In celebration of 40 years of family, food and fellowship, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, St. Joseph put together an heirloom cookbook! Worthy of handing down for generations, this book is sure to be a favorite. It contains over 700 tried and true recipes from contributors of all ages, held together with a three-ring binder and hard back cover. In honor of loved ones whom have passed on, recipes were included by their family members and marked with a ruby. The ruby is the symbol of the 40th anniversary. Artwork for the chapter dividers was created by some of our talented children in the congregation. The children also have their own chapter containing some of their favorite foods. Books are available at a reduced price just in time for the holidays! Books will be $15 each from now until Christmas. Please see Vicky in the church office to purchase.

Vacation Bible School 2008 Prince of Peace Lutheran Church children, beginning with age 4 through 6th grade, are invited to attend our Vacation Bible School this summer. Vacation Bible School will take place at Prince of Peace the weeknights of July 28th-August 1st. This year we have a science theme titled "Power Lab." Each year, we need many adults working together to make this a fun and inspirational event for all the kids who attend. If you plan to send your children and think you might like to help, your help will be most welcomed! For further information, please contact Lisa Mason or Pastor Jersild (217.469.7422).
High School Youth Prepare for Summer Mission Trip Nine Prince of Peace high school youths will be participating in a "Workcamp" Christian mission trip during the the week of July 19th—26th: Brianne BuckmasterStephen DunnChase GillilandKate HewerdineJonathon LackeySavannah LeRetteJordyn RahnKylie StewartJacob TownsendWith their adult chaperones (Tonya Dunn and Pastor Jersild), our youths will be traveling to Parsons, Kansas for a week to repair homes for people in need. Along with this service, they will worship and grow in their Christian faith with hundreds of other youths from around the country. Please keep our workcampers in your prayers as they prepare for this important faith-building experience!
UPDATE ON YOUTH MINISTER SEARCHWe are excited to be well on our way in our search for a youth minister to serve our congregation! Tentmakers, a youth ministry organization that helps match congregations with youth ministers, has already begun advertising for Prince of Peace on the web and in various youth ministry publications. They will screen applicants and send us information on people who look like a "good fit" for our consideration. The results of the "Essential Qualities in a Youth Minister" survey and other feedback tools indicated that our congregation is looking for a mature person who is passionate about Christ, who will be able to teach the Christian faith, relate well to kids of all ages (Early Learning Center through High School) and be a good organizer. The person should be especially comfortable and capable working with parents, to empower them and get them involved in youth ministry in ways which are rewarding and meaningful to them. He/she will need to be a team player who encourages our Youth Board and parents to take ownership of our youth program and make it a source of powerful Christian witness for all involved. Obviously this would be the ideal, and we can not expect any one person to combine all the skills and strengths we are looking for, just as no congregation will be a youth minister's ideal place to work! As we serve together in faith, however, we must trust that God will use all of our strengths and weaknesses together in a way which will work to His glory. Seven Prince of Peace members met on June 18th to become familiar with our new Youth Ministry Management Plan and to consider and pray about whether to serve on our Youth Board at this important time. It will not be long before we begin interviewing candidates and planning to welcome a new member to our Prince of Peace ministry staff. Please keep our youths, our parents, and our Youth Board in your prayers as we begin our search. We are confident that God will bless us as we seek to strengthen and expand our ministry in Christ's name towards the young people of our congregation and our community.
