ANNOUNCEMENTS:

WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY – LOVE RULES; A STUDY OF THE TEN COMMANDMENTS BY CHRISTINA HERGENRADER.  Tuesday evenings at 6:30pm
“What do the Ten Commandments do for you? Do they send you on a guilt trip? Are they a mirror of your frailties? Or do they hold life-changing love? The miracle of the Commandments is that even after thousands of years, they still hold everything we need to live in relationship with God and with one another.
The forty short chapters in Love Rules are shards of real, gritty life. In this women's Bible study, you will see yourself and how pride, insecurity, grudges, and coveting damage relationships. Love Rules tells the story of spiritual transformation, shows how God wants us to love better, and helps us see how we can. This Bible study addresses one commandment each week, then follows up with four devotions that approach the topic from different angles.”

The study runs through March 6th, so join at any time!  No homework. Interesting conversation. And, chocolate.  Bring a friend!  Questions?  Contact Melissa Idleman – 469-2786 or melissa.idleman@comcast.net.

ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL IN JANUARY
Make a plan in 2018 for smart and thoughtful Christian living.  Prince of Peace hosts special presentations during the month of January to help you start the year off right.   Please join us on Sunday morning from 10:30 – 11:15 AM for the following presentations:
January 21:  Financial Management.  We are pleased to welcome Peg Schluter, Manager of Brokerage Operations at Cozad Asset Management, Inc.  Peg will discuss recent changes in tax law, the importance of creating a family budget and investment strategies for long-term goals.   You are invited to attend and join in the discussion on these important topics!
January 28:  Control the Chaos.  We are pleased to welcome Chelsea Anderson, Champaign native and busy working mom who believes in living in the world, but not being controlled by it. Join Chelsea for a program entitled: CONTROL THE CHAOS. Every area of our life can bring us a mix of emotions. How we organize and run our lives (or how we don't) determines whether those emotions are positive or negative. In this course you'll learn the benefits of organizing many areas of life and the relief and freedom that awaits you. Take your life into your hands and learn how to control the chaos instead of the chaos controlling you!

POPS PLUS is meeting for breakfast at Rich’s Restaurant in Ogden on Thursday, January 18th at 9AM.  Please sign up if you are able to attend.  Come and join us!

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS FOR CHURCHES FOLLOW-UP MEETING:  WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 17TH, 6:30 P.M.
Prince of Peace is putting together an emergency preparedness plan using materials provided to churches by the Department of Homeland Security and the State of Illinois.  We are encouraging all members of Prince of Peace who are interested in participating to come to a meeting on Wednesday, January 17th, at 6:30 p.m.  We’ll meet in the renovated Sunday School room.  Members of Prince of Peace with law-enforcement experience, ushers, greeters, and Sunday School teachers are especially encouraged to attend.  If you can’t make the meeting but are interested in contributing to our efforts, please email or call Pastor Seth.

ANNUAL CONGREGATIONAL MEETING, SUNDAY, JANUARY 28TH:  All members of Prince of Peace are encouraged to attend the 2018 Annual Meeting at 11:15 a.m. on Sunday, January 28th.  We will meet in the main sanctuary and get started shortly after Sunday School ends that day.  Annual reports will be available in advance of the meeting.  We will review the past year of ministry at Prince of Peace, vote on a proposed budget, elect new council members, and look forward to plans we have for 2018!  Please make sure to come!

SALT AND LIGHT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:  THURSDAY, JANUARY 18TH
Members of Prince will be meeting at Salt and Light (1819 S. Philo Road, Urbana) on Thursday, January 18th to volunteer.  Salt and Light provides food, clothing, specialized job training, and counseling to families in need in Champaign County.  Go their website HERE to find out more about their philosophy of service, and the Christ-centered ministry they are doing in our community.  We hope you can join us on the 18th!  If you have any questions about Salt and Light, call Pastor Seth at 255-2118.

THURSDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY IN JANUARY-FEBRUARY
Everyone is encouraged to attend our Thursday night bible classes; you can jump in any time!  The reading assignments are short, which allows us to dig into some particular passages each week.  In January-March, we will concentrate on the Gospel of Mark, which we will be hearing from often at our worship services this year.  No prior bible study experience is expected of participants.  We meet at 6:30 p.m. in the newly renovated Sunday School room.  Our discussion schedule for January-February is as follows:
January 25:  Mark 1-2
February 1:  Mark 3-4
February 8:  Mark 5-6
February 15:  Mark 7-8
February 22:  Mark 9-10
March 1:  Mark 11-12
March 8:  Mark 13-14
March 15:  Mark 15-16

THE SAINT JOSEPH FOOD PANTRY NEEDS OUR HELP!
Demand is high, and food supplies for the pantry are often stretched during the winter months.  Bring your canned and non-perishable goods to the boxes in the breezeway entrance (near the church offices).  Your donations will be a blessing to families in need in our community!

HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH GATHERINGS take place in the youth room every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.  Check the "Youth" page for updates!

KIDSZONE SUNDAY CLASSES RESUME ON JANUARY 7TH WITH “WINTER GAMES”  Our Sunday School curriculum in January will have a fun “Winter Olympics” flavor.  All youths aged pre-K through 6th grade meet in the West Fellowship Hall after worship.  After singing together, the children break into separate groups for the rest of class.  Parents, please pick your children up at 11:15 in their separate classrooms!

EAT, PRAY, CARDS” JANUARY SCHEDULE
In January, our “Eat, Pray, Cards” group will meet twice, on Wednesday January 17th, and Wednesday January 31st.   All are invited to come!  We meet in the newly revamped Sunday School room for a light brunch, a brief devotion led by Pastor Seth, and a highly competitive round of cards.  We start at 10:00 a.m.  Hope to see you there!

CONFIRMATION STUDENTS: Our 7th-8th grade students meet for class every Sunday after worship at 10:30 in the East Fellowship Hall.  Confirmation students also come to church right after school each Wednesday from 3-5 with friends for fun, fellowship, and service activities.

WOMEN'S COFFEE AND PRAYER:
Need a midweek dose of powerful prayer?  How about support from other women who are ready to listen?  All women are invited to Geschenk Coffee and Tea Haus, 228 East Lincoln, in St. Joseph, on Wednesdays at 7:00 a.m.  Each week we'll hear a word of scripture, pray together and inspire one another for a new day--all while sharing delicious morning coffee or tea--and you'll still be in time for work or school!  See you there!
